A Bowl Of Fruit Punch Makes A Tropical-Themed Party Complete
Michalis 'BIG Mike' Kotzakolios

If you're planning to host your very own tropical-themed party, like a Hawaiian or a Laua party for example, one thing that will make the setup complete is a bowl of fruit punch. Such a drink is quite versatile. Left to its conventional ingredients, it's perfect for partygoers of all ages. You can serve the same for kids, adolescents, young adults and adults. But if you wish for a naughtier drink, you can always add liquor to the mix. The right amount will intensify the taste of the fruits therein, and it will also give the partygoers the "high" they desire.

1. Prepare the following ingredients:

* 1 quart of fresh orange juice
* 1 quart of cranberry juice, preferably sweetened
* 1/2 quart of pineapple juice
* 5 fresh limes, medium size
* 1 quart ginger ale

2. Combine all the ingredients above. Add sugar to sweeten, according to what you feel is best.

3. If you want to "spike" the fruit punch, add some rhum, whiskey OR brandy. Use moderate amounts, depending on the liquor. Add gradually to taste. Do not add too much or you will ruin the flavor. Remember to use liquor as a substitute for ginger ale. A balance must be struck to preserve flavor.

4. When ready to serve, add ice cubes.

These directions will allow you to make a gallon of fruit punch that is perfect for a party of 10 or more people.

This drink is named as such because it will instantly deliver an exquisite and unique flavor immediately upon drinking the same. It's like a "punch of flavor," hence its double-meaning name. Having originated from tropical countries, this drink is best served with a lot of cubed ice. It's supposed to be an instant refresher amid humid conditions. And because the flavor of fruits is easy to ingest, the person enjoying the drink is sure to experience a cool and relaxing sensation that will envelop his body.

Most are more familiar with Hawaiian punch, which is a variety of the fruit punch. They are one and the same, only, Hawaiian punch uses ingredients that are native to the island of Hawaii.

Such a drink is not limited to particular kinds of fruits, however. It is a very flexible drink that will allow you to add any fruit flavor you wish, through some concentrates that are widely available in the market, or through extracts from the fruits themselves.

Fri, 30 Jul 2010 16:40:45 -0700

Last year I bought a few Tayberry plants for my garden in Charmouth. I have tried to grow them in the past, but with little success. This time, I planted them up against my back fence and the combination of sea air and warm weather seems to have done the trick. But don't get too excited I'm not talking about harvesting kilos here; just half a dozen portions or so; highly satisfying, none the ...
